MARYVILLE, MO -- St. Francis Hospital & Health Services and St. Francis Hospital Foundation are the recipients of $730,000 in donations from Lorena Stoll who died at the hospital on September 30, 2011. The gift is restricted to medical equipment and a nursing scholarship fund.
 
Alvin Luke and Maxine Crail, successor trustees for Mrs. Stoll’s estate, made the presentation to John Yancey, president of the Foundation’s Board of Directors, and Gray Cox, hospital president.

 “The mission of St. Francis is: Through our exceptional health care services, we reveal the healing presence of God,” said Yancey. “Through this amazing gift from exceptional people, Bob and Lorena Stoll, exceptional health care services can and will continue for many, many years to come in their loving memory.”

 Although the majority of the funds are designated for medical equipment at the hospital, St. Francis Hospital Foundation will establish the “Robert J. Stoll and Lorena A. Stoll Scholarship Fund” for Nodaway County residents studying to become registered nurses or licensed practical nurses.

 Mrs. Stoll’s husband, Robert, passed away in 1990. The Stolls were long-time farmers in Conception area then later lived in Arkoe and Maryville. Mrs. Stoll had also previously donated $17,000 to the Foundation.

 “A gift such as this is extraordinarily rare and is obviously a symbol of special people,” said Cox. “It’s going to be used in a way not just for days, months or years but for decades. This donation will be used wisely and will be for the greatly benefit of our community.”
