St. Francis Hospital & Health Services is proud to announce that Alejandro (Alex) Amante, M.D., has been named as a Fellow in the American Psychiatric Association (APA) for his contributions in the field of psychiatry. Fellow status is an honor that reflects dedication to the work of the Association and signifies allegiance to the psychiatric profession.
To be eligible for Fellow status with the APA, a physician needs to have maintained continuous membership with the APA and be in good moral and professional standing, have received American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology board certification, and have credentials reviewed and approved by a District Branch (Missouri), by the APA Membership Committee, and by the APA Board of Trustees.
Dr. Amante was inducted at the 56th Convocation of Distinguished Fellows at the 165th Annual APA Convention held in Philadelphia on May 17, 2012.
“It is a huge honor and pleasure to be inducted and awarded the APA Fellow status representing Maryville, MO,” Amante said.
The American Psychiatric Association, founded in 1844, is the world's largest psychiatric organization. It is a medical specialty society representing more than 36,000 psychiatric physicians from the United States and around the world. Its member physicians work together to ensure humane care and effective treatment for all persons with mental disorders, including intellectual developmental disorders and substance use disorders.
Dr. Amante has been with St. Francis since 2004, serves the inpatient unit and has an outpatient psychiatry practice at St. Francis Family Life Services.
