St. Francis Hospital & Health Services will celebrate its 117th anniversary with a reception on Monday, August 22, with special guests in attendance.
Eight members of Franciscan Sisters of Mary, the hospital’s sponsoring congregation, will be visiting Maryville and St. Francis. The reception is planned to offer community and employees the opportunity to visit with the sisters, some of whom were previous Maryville residents.
After arriving in Maryville in March, 1894, a small group of sisters opened the first hospital on September 8, in a renovated 12-room building. For the past 117 years, the hospital has maintained the mission first established by the founding sisters to heal the sick. Although the last of the three members sponsoring order left Maryville in 1999, the sisters heritage and philosophy continue to influence St. Francis Hospital & Health Services mission and ministry to the communities we serve.
The Anniversary reception, scheduled from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. Monday, will be held in the lobby area at the hospital along the hallway near the chapel. Refreshments will be served and the public is invited to attend.
